Columbiana County Bridge Replacement

A 118-foot single-span prestressed concrete box beam bridge with asphalt was designed by ARCADIS to replace an existing single-span steel truss bridge on stone abutments over the north fork of Little Beaver Creek. The bridge (ELK-102-36) is located on Bear Hollow Road northwest of Liverpool. The new bridge has stub abutments on drilled shafts. The box beams were modified from the ODOT standard to span 118 feet. Modifications included increasing the bottom flange thickness; increasing the strength of the concrete; increasing the prestressing strand diameter; and modifying the shear keyway. Constructed in 2000 at a cost of $416,500, the 118-foot span is the longest prestressed concrete box beam bridge in Ohio.
