High-speed railway lines are increasingly being used as a viable alternative for short-distance air travel. Their advantage being that they operate in the heart of cities, while airports are usually located on the outskirts of town, requiring additional travel time and expenses. Given the high speeds used in this mode of transportation, tolerances are tight. Tracks on which trains travel at around 300 kilometers-per-hour have to be extremely stable and straight. With its extensive experience in railroad technology, ARCADIS is assisting in the design and construction of many extensions of the high- speed railway networks. Our activities in this field include identifying ideal locations for new tracks and providing environmental impact assessments. We provide geotechnical services to ensure a stable basis for the track construction. We provide track design, civil engineering, electrical engineering for power supply, and signal and communications engineering. In addition, we assist clients in all requirements with regard to permitting issues, site acquisition and financing. Additionally, ARCADIS provides construction management and supervision services during the construction phase.
