Barnett Shoals Alternate Route Analysis

The purpose of the project was to determine if the volume of traffic diverted by a bypass would be sufficient to warrant its construction. Barnett Shoals is a congested arterial in Athens, Georgia. The county TRANPLAN model was modified to assess the impacts of a bypass route to Barnett Shoals Road. The model was calibrated to reflect existing traffic volumes and future traffic volumes were developed. Selected link analysis was completed on the various alternates to determine their impact and effectiveness in meeting the project goals. Met with Department of Transportation staff and demonstrated changes to the model and results from several alternate plans.
