ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consulting and engineering company, today announced that one of its principal scientists, Dr. Ram Hashmonay, is co-chair of an upcoming conference on greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement. The meeting will be the first international symposium of its kind, and it is being hosted by the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA). ARCADIS is the co-sponsor of this event.

The symposium, which is taking place between March 22nd and 24th, 2009, in Burlingame, CA, will initiate discussion of the state of the science in GHG measurement and monitoring, and begin indentifying the technological needs for accurate and comprehensive local, regional, national, and international monitoring systems. During the call for abstracts, Hashmonay’s expectations were exceeded—scientists around the world submitted more than double the amount of abstracts than what was initially expected.

“The interest in this conference is enormous, and it’s easy to see why,” Hashmonay explains. “The problem of accurately measuring greenhouse gases is something that we’ll all have to face. As part of the ARCADIS team, it’s our duty to promote methods of sustainability that will ultimately benefit both our natural and built environments.”

Hashmonay, who was Chair of the Optical Sensing Division at the technical council of A&WMA for six years, was recently elected to serve as the Air Group Coordinator of the organization’s technical council. A&WMA is the leading air pollution management organization in the world.
