West Palm Beach, Fla. – March. 20, 2007 – ARCADIS (NASDAQ: ARCAF, EURONEXT: ARCAD) is pleased to announce that David Smith, has joined our West Palm Beach office as principal hydrogeologist.
Serving as principal hydrogeologist, Smith will be responsible for providing water supply, deep injection well and groundwater recharge expertise to our clients. More recently he has been actively managing alternative water supply projects which are using Aquifer Storage Recovery (ASR) wells and direct supply wells from the Floridian aquifer. This specialist knowledge will be invaluable to our clients as they are directed to reduce their dependence on groundwater withdrawals from the surfical aquifers. Aquifer Storage Recovery strategies have also been implemented for the storage of highly treated wastewater for later reuse, and partially treated surface water injected during the wet season for withdrawal and supply during the dry season.

Smith, has 25 years experience in hydrogeology, water resources, and environmental sciences, gained from working with environmental regulatory authorities, water utility companies, and engineering consultants. He has extensive project management, construction management, and client service management experience and has had senior management roles in staffing and project delivery. He has worked extensively in countries around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Israel, Palestine, Turkey, and USA. This international experience has given him useful insight and experience at delivering projects in a wide range of geological settings and geo-political situations.
Smith, holds a post graduate diploma (U.S. equivalent to a master’s degree) in hydrogeology from the University of New South Wales in Australia and a bachelor’s degree in geology and geography from University of Auckland in New Zealand. He is a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists and the New Zealand Association of Soil & Water Conservation.
