ARCADIS Scientist Earns Recognition as Henry Krumb Lecturer by Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration

DENVER, CO – July 30, 2009 – ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consulting and engineering company, today announced that Principal Scientist Jeff Gillow, Ph.D., has been selected as one of five Henry Krumb Lecturers for 2009-2010 by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME), with the goal of sharing specialized geochemical expertise.

The SME Henry Krumb Lecturer program makes outstanding guest lecturers available to SME Local Sections, which represent nearly 70 different geographic areas throughout the U.S. The program supports the crucial SME mission of professional development, and helps SME members appreciate and understand the importance of new methods and technologies. Lecturers are selected from the presenters of technical papers at the SME Annual Meeting, after being nominated by the SME Annual Meeting Session Chairs.

Dr. Gillow, who specializes in site evaluation and remediation for ARCADIS clients, earned Henry Krumb Lecturer status based on his recent presentation "Characterization of Arsenic Geochemistry in a Historical Mining Area Prior to New Mining Operations."

The presentation focuses in the use of detailed chemical and mineralogical characterization of historical tailings, ore, and rock samples to understand arsenic behavior in the environment. This work exemplifies the cutting-edge approach that ARCADIS takes when performing geochemical investigation work, and the presentation discusses the preparation and validation of a site geochemical conceptual model. This type of model is an essential aspect of building a comprehensive technical understanding for mine site environmental evaluations.  "Being selected as a Henry Krumb Lecturer is not only a great honor, but also a reflection of the ARCADIS commitment to advancing geochemical science and education," Dr. Gillow said.

In addition to his scientific work with ARCADIS, Dr. Gillow has authored numerous papers and conducted several scientific lectures on environmental topics and biogeochemistry, as well as giving presentations to the National Academy of Sciences and the Environmental Protection Agency.
