Chattanooga, Tenn. – March 16, 2007 – ARCADIS (NASDAQ: ARCAF, EURONEXT: ARCAD) is very pleased to announce that the firm was honored with an award from the Tennessee chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for the 2007 Engineering Excellence Awards. ARCADIS was selected for the honor award in the water and wastewater category for the Whites Creek Performance-Based I/I Reduction project.
The Whites Creek project involved the rehabilitation of Whites Creek Basin sewer system for Nashville’s Metro Water Services Department. The Whites Creek system covers more than 20,000 acres and 160 miles of sewer line. Although team members had many years of experience with rehabilitation design and construction, they were challenged to economize their efforts to achieve demonstrated results with a unique Find & Fix® approach through a design-build relationship between ARCADIS (engineer) and Reynolds Inliner (contractor) to facilitate expedient delivery. The team utilized ARCADIS’ Find & Fix® rehabilitation delivery system to produce value for the client in reduced costs and expedited effective results. This approach combines the field investigation and engineering analysis with actual rehabilitation, while allowing the client to maintain “real-time” project control, ultimately producing faster, effective results at a lower overall cost. The project utilized trenchless technology for efficiency and minimal disturbance to the environment and community. The five-year $7.5 million contract included a bonus for achieving at least 30 percent infiltration and inflow (I/I) reduction and penalty for less than 20 percent. In the end, a remarkable overall 41 percent I/I reduction was achieved. As a result, Metro paid a bonus of $385,000 for exceeding performance goals. Over 94,000 LF of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining was installed, 250,000 LF of sewer lines were televised and cleaned, 415 manholes were rehabilitated, and 860 service laterals were renewed.
“This award is a source of great pride for our company,” said John Hensley, sr. vice president and area manager for ARCADIS’ Deep South area. “ARCADIS is dedicated to solving complex transportation, land development, water and sewer related issues while supporting needs of communities. This project was a successful team effort and we’re very proud to have been a part of a great solution.”
